Well, those of you following the progress (or in this case lack of!) of Baby Harding will not be surprised to hear that we are still waiting for his/her appearance into the world!
We attended Derriford yesterday afternoon for monitoring, and took the decision to start the induction process, as at 14 days overdue, there are small increases in risk to our little one every day that it remains in the womb. Abi was monitored and assessed by the labour ward (which took 5 hours due to the customary staff shortages!), who determined that she was sufficiently far along the labour route for her to be transfered to the delivery suite for her waters to be broken and second stage labour to begin, and that our little one was fine as well, if rather cramped!.
Unfortunately, but probably rather unsurprisingly for the NHS, they will not transfer Abi to the delivery suite until they have sufficent spare capacity to cope with their ‘expected’ arrivals who have called in as already in labour……so she has to sit and wait (with no information forthcoming about for how long), despite their telling us that she is being treated as a high priority due to her being so overdue!
So, at 11pm last night, I finally came home (visiting had finished at 8pm!), leaving Abi on the labour ward waiting in the queue to be taken downstairs. This was pretty frustrating, given that I could be called back at any moment, but as I write this, there has still not been any transfer to delivery!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please pray for Abi, our little one and me at this time, and that a safe delivery into the world will be forthcoming soon. Hopefully the next post will be about a safe arrival!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
