After dominating the first half of last night’s match against Bristol City, Argyle were left to rue missed opportunities as their 2-0 half-time lead was pegged back by City, who scored an equaliser in the 88th minute.
It was a cracking game, full of local derby (if you call 120 miles away local!) desire and with a passionate home crowd in the main outsung by the visiting Green Army. Argyle raced to a 2-0 lead inside 18 minutes, with Jamie Mackie scoring with a strong right-foot shot low into the corner after a good run from the half way line, and Rory Fallon capping a fine team move with a superb scissor kick volley.
However, with Argyle having had chances to go in at half-time 4-0 up, City came out early for the second half after a likely rollicking from their manager Gary Johnson, and they took the fight to Argyle. A scrappy goal just past the hour set-up a classic grandstand finish and then, with Argyle seemingly destined for a fourth consecutive win (3 of them away from home!), City levelled through a flukey long range shot.
Argyle manager Paul Sturrock claimed it was a good result, but I can’t help thinking that deep down he sees it as ‘the one that got away’……….
Come on you Greens!!!!!!!!!!!!
